Detroit Lakes, Minnesota
100+ acres of northern Minnesota woods along the shores of Johnson Lake. Tent sites, RV hookups, and hand-built cabins β all within walking distance of the water.
About Lazy Loon
Lazy Loon Campground sits on the eastern shore of Johnson Lake, just minutes from downtown Detroit Lakes. What began as a family fishing retreat has grown into a beloved destination for campers, boaters, and anyone who wants to slow down and listen to the loons call at dusk.
Our 100+ acres of mixed pine and hardwood forest provide natural privacy between sites. Whether you're pitching a tent under the stars, pulling into a full-hookup RV pad, or renting one of our rustic cabins, you'll find the same thing here: clean facilities, friendly faces, and the kind of quiet that's hard to come by.
Sites & Stays
From walk-in tent sites to full-hookup RV pads and cozy cabins β we have a place for every kind of traveler.
Shade-covered sites nestled among pines, each with a fire ring and access to clean restrooms and hot shower facilities. Walk to the lake in under five minutes.
Full-hookup pads with 30/50-amp electric, water, and sewer connections. Level gravel pads fit everything from a small trailer to a large fifth-wheel. Wi-Fi available in the office area.
Hand-built log cabins with queen beds, heating, and a small porch overlooking the woods. No hookups needed β just bring your sleeping bag and your sense of adventure.
Reservations recommended May through September.
What to Do
Paddle-craft available for rent right from the campground. Launch into Johnson Lake and explore coves that larger boats can't reach.
Johnson Lake holds walleye, perch, bass, and crappie. Gear up at the bait shop in town or bring your own β the shore is accessible from the campground.
Miles of wooded trails wind through our property, connecting to the larger Detroit Lakes trail system. Easy walks and moderate loops for all levels.
Minimal light pollution means the Milky Way is visible on clear nights. Grab a blanket, sit by the fire pit, and let the sky do the talking.
Loons, herons, deer, and a surprising number of turtles call this area home. Bring binoculars and keep a quiet eye on the shoreline at dawn.
Restaurants, shops, and the waterfront promenade are just a short drive away. The downtown pier and concert series are summer highlights.
